About the Video Recording Mandate

Any and all police questioning in major crimes must be recorded on video starting in April. This applies to all law enforcement agencies in the state of New York.

Must be enforced the entire time the suspect is in custody

Includes homicide, sexual assault robbery and other Part I crimes as defined by the FBI

Must comply with proper retention policies where applicable

The provisions mandating the recording of interrogations are some of the most stringent in the country, which we know will make a huge difference in preventing false confessions.
